How should I prepare for my first Brazilian wax?

The first thing you should do is grow your hair out. We require at minimum 3 weeks of hair growth, as this will give you optimal results. The day of your appointment we recommend wearing loose, comfortable clothing. Wearing tight clothing will cause friction on the freshly waxed area which can lead to irritation. If you are concerned about pain, we do recommend taking a pain reliever such as Advil 30 minutes prior to your service. Lastly do not consume alcohol, caffeine, or take any drug substances prior to your service as this can increase the sensitivity level in your skin.

Does a Brazilian wax hurt?

We don’t like to sugar coat over here. Hair getting pulled out the root isn’t going to be the most pleasant feeling. However, we do promise to make your experience as comfortable as possible. Our motto at Portee Aesthetics is: Your Brazilian wax should be Tolerable Not Torturous! If you are concerned about the pain, we highly recommend taking a pain reliever 30 minutes prior to your appointment to help reduce the sensitivity in the skin.

How old do I have to be to get waxed?

For our Brazilian wax service you must be 18 years old or older. For our bikini, full bikini and underarm services you must be 16 years old or older and have parental consent.

How much hair should I have before booking a wax?

We require a minimum of 3 weeks of hair growth. Anything shorter than that will not yield the best wax results.

When should I not get waxed?

You should not get waxed if it has been less than 3 weeks since you have shaved, trimmed or used products like Nair. You can not get waxed if you are currently on Accutane or similar acne medications (you must be off these medications for at least a year)

Can I get waxed on my period?

You sure can! In order to get waxed on your cycle you must wear a tampon or menstrual cup during your service.

What type of wax do you use?

We use a hypoallergenic hard wax. The great thing about hard wax is that it only adheres to the hairs and not the skin which makes for a more comfortable wax experience.

Can I get waxed while pregnant?

Of course! We do recommend checking with your doctor to make sure it’s ok for you to do so. We have waxed many mama-to-be’s, so you will be in good hands. We also offer modified positions to make sure you are the most comfortable during your service.

Should I trim before my appointment?

We recommend not to trim down the hair prior to your service. The longer the hair, the better in our opinion. When you trim, you may trim it down too short which will make it harder for the wax to grab the hair.

What activities should I avoid post wax?

You want to avoid anything that will cause friction or irritation to the skin. This can lead to bacteria getting trapped in the freshly waxed skin. We recommend avoiding wearing tight clothing, exercise, sex, going to the beach, pool or hot tub. Also no saunas or any other excessive heat activities for 24-48 hours post wax.

Can I bring a friend/partner/kids to my wax appointment?

To provide you with the best 1-on-1 personalized wax experience, we do kindly ask that you arrive to your appointment alone.

What is your cancellation and rescheduling policy?

A 50% retainer fee is required for all bookings. This fee is non refundable. This fee will go towards your service and is transferable up to 2 rescheduled appointments booked within 6 weeks of the original appointment. Please cancel or reschedule your appointment 24 hours prior to your scheduled appointment. We have a 7 minute grace period. After 7 minutes, your appointment will be cancelled. *We waive the retainer fee when you rebook in the studio only. If you same day cancel or reschedule that appointment you will be subject to a 50% cancellation or reschedule fee*

Do you offer male Brazilian wax services?

We do not offer this service as our esthetician is not trained in this area. We would be more than happy to send you recommendations of wax studios who do offer this service.
